At Holly Peters Oriental Rugs & Home, we offer a variety of services — from rug maintenance to consultations and appraisals — to make sure you get the most out of your experience.
The two most important elements in maintaining the life of your rug are padding and cleaning, and we are here to help with both. A rug that’s kept in an active room should be cleaned thoroughly once a year; rugs in less active rooms should be cleaned, every two to three years. When it’s time to clean them, our professionals carefully dust them before submerging them in water and washing by hand with a mild shampoo. Your rug is rinsed until the water runs clean and the rug smells fresh, and then it is hand-squeegeed and air dried. The process is the equivalent of hand washing a delicate knit sweater, on a much larger scale. Our service is similar to a concierge service: you simply call or email to get on our schedule, we come pick up the rug, clean it, and return it at your convenience.
We do all levels of restoration, from simple repair — say, for instance, the fringe is coming off — to full restoration of a fine antique rug. Catching and addressing repairs is important when they are still minor, because they can get very expensive very quickly. We assess the damage and evaluate whatever repairs your rug might need, and we have a guild of skilled restoration craftspeople to assist you with everything from reweaving to dyeing wool. Restoration that is done properly should enhance value in your rug.
Fire & Flood Damage
Consumers often believe a rug that has endured a fire or flood is a lost cause — a notion salvage companies will often reinforce. But in many cases, rugs that have been in fires and floods actually can be salvaged. We have salvaged many of them through our cleaning and restoration services. If you have any doubts, please call us for a consultation.
Custom Cut Rug Pads
Your rugs are an investment, and we treat them as such. The padding offers an added layer of protection to buffer the textiles from the floor every time you walk on them. The correct padding for your rug is a critical factor in maintaining durability and can increase a rug’s lifespan by up to 30%. When you buy a rug from us, the padding should go hand-in-hand. We offer several varieties of high-quality rubber padding, which we custom cut to help prolong the life of your rug. Rug maintenance is a big part of our business, and we take it very seriously.
Oftentimes in the design process, we will go to a client’s house before any rugs are even considered to help them to determine the size and style they might need, and to help them evaluate their personal preferences. We’re then able to distill that information into helping them find the perfect rug for their space. Rather than a client coming into the store, explaining the room and the size, and then buying a rug to take home, we will bring the rug to the house for them and do a showing—this is a service we offer with the purchase of any rug.
Another level of service we offer is a complete design consultation, where I go to the client’s home, take the measurements of the rooms, discuss the budget involved, help coordinate things like paint color choices, and then put together a plan to fulfill the client’s vision. This is above and beyond the rug purchase services, and is charged accordingly.
Whether you need a rug for every room in your home, or are simply looking to invest in one great rug, we are here to assist you to whatever degree necessary.
Rug Evaluations and Appraisals
We do rug appraisals for insurance purposes, as well as evaluations to determine the value of a rug and offer its background or history. For instance, if someone inherits a rug and wants to determine exactly what it is and how much it might be worth, we are happy to step in and offer our help.
